What is an UHF ?

21 University Hospital Federations (UHF) were created following a call for projects launched in 2019 uniting the Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP), the Institut Nationale de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale (Inserm) and the universities of the Ile-de-France region with the aim of :

  • boosting links between hospitals and universities
  • identify priority themes for research, teaching and care
  • diversify research funding by closely involving companies

Each selected UHF will receive a label and funding for a period of five years, from 2019 to 2024.

In 2012, due to an increasingly competitive international context and the emergence of new health challenges, 16 university hospital departments (UHD) were jointly accredited by the AP-HP, the universities of Ile-de-France and research organizations. This program and the 16 departments were evaluated by the High Council for the Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERES), which recommended that the experience be repeated. The name of Federation (University Hospital Federation - UHF) was then chosen, which better describes the will to bring together clinical and research teams.
